What is meditation?

Anything that helps you develop three attentional skills.

Concentration - the ability to focus on what you choose.

Sensory Clarity - noticing details in real time

Equanimity - allowing, openness, letting things be as they are.


Meditating is a 🤷‍♂️ goal. Meditation is a practice. A tool.

Mindfulness is a 💪 goal. Mindfulness is a state. A quality.

The tool of meditation is only useful insofar as it helps us develop mindfulness.

Details

This class will run for 8 consecutive Sundays, starting July 9th, 2023, and ending on August 27th, 2023 from 1 2pm - 1 pm (America/New_York) live on Zoom.

Each class will consist of a talk outlining and describing a technique we'll practice together, a guided practice of that technique, and an opportunity for you to ask questions and share how that was for you.

50% of your payment will be donated to ${charity}.

Hello 👋 my name is Brian.

I was first introduced to meditation 11 years ago as a part of my actor training which was my vocation for the first decade of my adult life.

I did it out of obligation. I did it fueled by a little bit of faith. After all, so many people were talking about it.

Show me the person who sets a goal to exercise more and I'll get against them every time.

Show me the person who sets a goal to lose 50 pounds so they can increase the likelihood of

"Exercise more," is a bad goal.

Meditation doesn't matter. Mindfulness matters.

Exercise doesn't matter.

  1. Feeling good naked
  2. Feeling strong
  3. being strong
  4. Being able to put your grandchildren on your shoulder
  5. Being able to empty
  6. Having the strength and stamina to go on a hike and enjoy nature.
  7. Having enough muscle so that if you fall, that fall doesn't turn fatal.

Will any of these questions get answered with "yes"?

No.

Are you a mental heath worker professional?

No, I am not.

Are you a guru?

Definitely not, no.

What if I'm looking for a guru?

Perhaps try asking Google or ChatGPT?

Is this religious in nature or a religion?

Nope. Not even slightly. We're just going to learn different ways of focusing on and noticing our thoughts, bodies, and environment. Some of those ways can be calming, help promote relaxation, or simply feel good.

Do I have to bow?

Not if you don't want to. I might bow to you in delight for you joining me particularly since I can't shake your hand, give you a high five or give you a hug over zoom. You can just wave or smile back. Or nothing at all.

Is there any chanting, singing, or living sacrifice?

But, not to everything else.
